The Story of Harvest Hills Homestead
When we found our homestead, I was early pregnancy with our son and our oldest daughter was seven years old. We knew then that we wanted to create a life for our children rooted in family, hard work, and the land beneath our feet.
What started as a few animals and a garden quickly grew into something much more — it became a way of life. By the time our youngest daughter was born, we were well on our way, with more chickens and goats than we ever imagined and a growing homestead that was shaping our family just as much as we were shaping it.
and teaching them the value of responsibility, compassion, and hard work. Farm life isn’t always easy — there are long days, muddy boots, early mornings, and unpredictable seasons — but it is a life filled with purpose, faith, and gratitude.
Our Beginning
When Life Changed
Along the way, our journey took an unexpected turn that would change the direction of our homestead and our business. After years of struggling to understand what was going on with our little girl, we finally got answers when she was five years old. She was diagnosed with severe allergies — including a life-threatening dairy allergy, not only from ingesting it, but even from skin contact. We also learned she is among the small percentage of people who can be near peanuts or touch them, but if ingested, she has a severe allergic reaction.
Suddenly, everything changed.
What we put into and onto our bodies could no longer be an afterthought — it had to be intentional. It had to be safe. It had to be clean. Not just skincare, but food too. Everything had to become dairy-free, and we quickly learned that dairy is in far more foods and products than most people realize. We had to learn how to cook differently, bake differently, source ingredients differently, and live differently.
What felt overwhelming at first slowly became a new way of living — one where we understood our ingredients, where our food came from, and what we were putting on our skin every single day.
From Necessity to Purpose
What started as research and necessity quickly turned into a passion. I began learning everything I could about ingredients, traditional methods, food ingredients, skincare ingredients, and natural alternatives. Creating clean, simple, natural products wasn’t just a hobby anymore — it became a necessity for our family and our daily life.
That necessity grew into what is now our homestead product line — made with simple, recognizable ingredients, including lard from local pasture-raised Kune Kune pigs and other carefully selected natural ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. Every product is made with the same care and intention that began in our own home, for our own child and our own family.
What began as something we had to do became something we truly believe in — knowing your ingredients, knowing where your food comes from, and choosing products made with care and purpose.
As our homestead grew, so did our passion for creating. What began as making things for our own home turned into sharing those goods with others. Today, we create small-batch, handcrafted products inspired by life on the homestead — from laser-engraved wood goods, gathering boards, and homestead décor to hand-poured candles, natural wax melts, traditional skincare, and specialty gift sets.
Because of our family’s journey with severe food allergies, we also create dairy-free muffin and cake mixes and thoughtfully curated allergen-friendly gift sets for children, so families like ours can still enjoy special treats and celebrations without worry.
Everything we make is rooted in the same values that built this homestead: quality, tradition, hard work, and family.
